We post our own stuff on there as well. And we also have our Thank you Instagram for the podcast. That @tdtmotorcycles And find it on Instagram. It's still a work in progress. We don't really how much content on There are no content. Yeah, and we just launched this week so we'll get that set up. But yeah, we'll get that some traction there.

  00;00;46;02 - 00;01;03;24

We'll try to post either, you know what, we're still kind of working on our strategy, so give us a call. Well, we'll get back together, you understand? Yeah. Anyways, yeah. Welcome back and thank you again for tuning in. We keep getting more and more listeners and that makes us very happy. We also had some the coolest thing, honestly.

  00;01;03;29 - 00;01;23;05

We also had some emails come in with people saying some good stuff about us and that you wanted to share one of the reviews we got, right? Yeah, I was thinking of doing as we wrapped up, but we can go over that now. Okay. Yeah. Season one of the reviews, we got two reviews this last week that we could just give them a brief.

  00;01;23;08 - 00;01;45;03

Yeah, let's just do a brief. DeadEyeDead13. Thank you so much for your comment. Let's listen to a lot of podcasts and this is very entertaining. Enjoyable. Thank you, love. Actually, it's actually really cool sharing that. So good to hear. And then I've got dubstep for I am new to serious riding and I needed information on how to be safe, comfortable, what money to spend on what.

  00;01;45;06 - 00;02;04;21

In the first five episodes I had enough information to be entirely confident in my new motorcycle commute. These guys know their stuff. They ride new and different motorcycles and the content stretches across all types of riding except maybe not Harleys. Thank you. That's awesome. Again. Yeah. Thank you so much. I'm really glad that we can just put that out there.

  00;02;04;21 - 00;02;25;11

And we. We will. And do want to try Harley. So we'll get you a Harley one day. One of these days. We just don't have any connections yet. Any local Harley dealers. But yeah, well, we'll hopefully get there one day. We also had a couple of emails. We won't share the full name here, but Philip said, you know, he just thank you for letting us know that you're liking the podcast.

  00;02;25;12 - 00;02;49;16

He's also a fellow ADV rider. And yeah, thank you so much for listening. And we also had another set. Derek Yeah. Derek asking us some questions about riding, which we actually felt like it would be a great topic for a future episode. Yeah, but he had just some advice about START or had some questions about starting out or starting to ride after the motorcycle safety course.

  00;02;49;17 - 00;03;06;09

You know how it feels to like, get on bigger and bigger roads and stuff. And if he felt that would be a great topic for a separate There's so much to go over. Yeah like in both of our different experiences. Yeah I think yeah. So we'll we'll start that but Derek thank you for the suggestion we're going to do that in the future.

  00;03;06;12 - 00;03;28;12

So today we are going to be talking about the degree or the descent, distinguished gentleman's ride. And for those of you that do not know, it is a ride that happens usually in May of every year and is sponsored by Triumph. Triumph, a few other partnerships in there. There's else or else and Movember and there's a couple others.

  00;03;28;12 - 00;03;58;06

I think Hedon does it. Okay. I hadn't I don't know what they say that and it's basically a it's to raise awareness for men's health so for all time those issues men's mental health, prostate health and all of these kinds of things to raise awareness for and yeah, to raise awareness about that and also help raise money to you know, for research, for donation, for research and things like that for prostate cancer, mental health and all those kinds of things.

  00;03;58;06 - 00;04;25;00

So it's a really cool program and a really cool organization. Yeah. Now, so I've done three or yeah, three rides since I started riding. Globe. I don't think you've had the opportunity. I have not, because I wasn't able to make it till last year. Last year that little and yeah, no, no, not bike related, but I just couldn't make it so I'm hoping I'm definitely going to go this year and I'm really looking forward to that.

  00;04;25;02 - 00;04;55;24

But before we jump into that, let's cover some some quick motorcycle related news. So we got a couple of stories. And I thought the most interesting one was since last week with our last last episode, we talked about the motorcycle technology. So I saw this really cool article on Rider Mag and they're talking about Yamaha is basically developing a prototype to basically make the bike stand up on its own at low at low speeds or even the one that's standing still.

  00;04;55;26 - 00;05;33;00

And I have a quote here from the article and it says, The dynamic, the dynamics of the process at the drive accelerator has been are sorry. So the system is called Advanced Motorcycle Stabilization assist system or M6 access access, and we'll call that. And this is the way they describe the dynamics of the process of the drive actuator has been compared with a holding a broom upside down on your palm, combined with the idea of the mini steering adjustments required to keep a bicycle upright when standing still without pedaling.

  00;05;33;02 - 00;05;52;25

And so I said, Oh, I was going to say so hearing that, it sounds like, you know, when you're going slower, you start to wobble your front wheel back and forth. Yeah, it's basically you're not good for you. Yeah. So you have to have like on like on peak balance. Mm hmm. On point balance. And then also keep friction like going, you know that.

  00;05;52;26 - 00;06;14;13

But, you know, if you see like some road bicyclists on the road and stuff, instead of putting their foot down, they kind of stand up on their pedals and kind of wiggle the bike back and forth to keep that balance. And it's basically from what I understood, that's how the system is trying to is basically what it's doing, except it's using motors on both the wheel and actuate or on the on the steering.

  00;06;14;17 - 00;06;43;01

Yeah. To to do that and it does it and Yamaha's whole idea is to basically use technology, skill and connectivity to essentially help reduce motorcycle accidents, especially at low speeds, was cool because they describe in the article that it does not require modifications to the frame. It's something you can add to current frames on their is a six axis IMU and the prototype vehicle that they have can move at walking speed without ticking.

  00;06;43;01 - 00;07;08;20

Tipping over. Yeah, just kind of cool. It's really cool and like Yamaha, this whole like, you know, we always bump a mic in the episode. It's just me know, I remember watching videos like from years ago that Yamaha is working on that on the same thing for a long time. And they had like a little baby prototype of some kind and but it was like hand motion or voice control that the guy like beckoned it in and it would like it like wobble.

  00;07;08;20 - 00;07;24;25

That's way over. I mean, but it wasn't stable. It was like very much like it had to sweep or sweep back and forth very interesting. But he also put his hand up and like a bike stop. I don't know if that was a show. Yeah, but it was cool cause I don't. Do you think there's practicality in this?

  00;07;24;25 - 00;07;41;28

Like for the everyday rider, if I ever became like, an athlete, would you, would you tack on an additional price out of your pocket? If that was a feature? I personally would not, but I could see it being something that if they can, because we do have some pictures or I don't know how many pictures that like pulled up and I'm able to do that while recording.

  00;07;42;01 - 00;08;00;02

But judging by the picture, it's kind of a bulky looking system that adds on to the wheel. I'm not sure what the actual air for the handlebars looks like or for the steering column or whatever it's called the motorcycle. I can never remember. Yeah, of how it looks, but it looks like a little bulky and stuff, but I could see if it could be shrunken down.

  00;08;00;05 - 00;08;24;08

I could see it being very useful for new riders of beginner riders because those slow speeds can be very intimidating because sometimes you feel like your bike is almost going to tip over. I mean, the slower you're going or not going like you're the heavier your bike is your physics, you know? Yeah, and I think so until like you learn like counterbalance and all those things, I feel like it could be kind of a useful system on beginner bikes or if someone doesn't feel as confident.

  00;08;24;11 - 00;08;51;13

Yeah. Or, and I just barely thought of this. Or if you're not physically able to hold your bike up. Oh there's that. I maybe this system can help. You still ride without having to put like your full weight on like a bad leg or you know, if you're have muscle issues or something like that that prevents you from being able to fully hold up the bike or if they even, like, get that like get it, get the technology like down pat, like, you know, well, we've mentioned it before, like height on motorcycle.

  00;08;51;16 - 00;09;11;01

Yeah. For the the vertically challenged. Right. Because you know like maybe that could just kind of help them. Yeah. Maybe not honestly keep them upright the entire time but like at least, like helping assist with the weight. Yeah. Help or help bring the bike back up because not everybody has tried suspension that. Yeah. Magically lowers itself. You know, it's 25 grand on one.

  00;09;11;07 - 00;09;34;15

Yeah. And then for the other bit of news we have C.F. Moto, we haven't talked to them about them too much on the podcast because they're kind of more emerging in the US market as a Chinese brand, but I think they have partnerships with KTM now and I think they all Benelli motorcycles from Italy. Oh really? Yeah. So, so very big over in Asia and stuff.

  00;09;34;15 - 00;10;02;29

Kind of starting to emerge into the US market. But what's cool about them is they have a very low entry point, very low price points for fairly reasonably well featured bikes. And this one's the model for 50 SS, that's a 450 CC engine. It's got 50 horsepower, ¬£28 feet of torque. Now, is that a sport bikers like? It is a sport bike, so it is a very aggressive, forward leaning, fully faired sport bike and stuff.

  00;10;03;05 - 00;10;27;08

But the biggest thing is that starts at 5500 bucks. So that's not bad. That's a very low entry point I think for 50. Yeah, it comes with a single disc. 320 Mm. Brembo brakes up front and 2220. Mm. Rear brakes not adjustable suspension, five inch TFT with Bluetooth connectivity. That's something for that price. Whereas I wouldn't expect really adjustable suspension.

  00;10;27;14 - 00;10;46;14

Yeah. You know, in that price but I feel like 5500 bucks for a brand new bike is a very accessible and easy entry point for someone's getting into. Yeah. Into motorcycles. Do we have a picture of that or do we not. Um, I do have a picture. Let me see if I can. We were going to plug where you have it.

  00;10;46;15 - 00;11;09;06

Yeah. Yeah. Well, I didn't post on Instagram now. Yeah, we can put it on Instagram. So basically the Komodo, it's, it's a sports bike. It looks like a sports bike. It's very aggressive position. But I think the biggest thing is that entry point and main, you both agree having a motorcycle is better than no motorcycle. So if this helps someone that's brand new, get a motorcycle, that's that's all great.

  00;11;09;06 - 00;11;24;25

Yeah. Or, you know, even if like your Yeah you're interested in it but like you don't want to spend like a buttload of money. Yeah, exactly. And I think this could be a good go. It's going to dip your toes into it. And yeah, I've never ridden or touched the sea of motorbikes. I can't really speak for the build quality and stuff.

  00;11;24;27 - 00;11;43;05

Zero in place, but it is a low priced bikes. You kind of have to know there's going to be you have expectation there's going to be some concessions, I'm sure you know. So, but I still think it's kind of great to see these cheaper bikes, more approachable, more approachable to to lower the barrier for entry into motorcycling. Yeah.

  00;11;43;06 - 00;12;11;26

And then lastly, because we're talking about the DJR today Triumph announce the two on 20 Bonneville DJR Edition. Oh, so it has a kind of this black and white, black and silver ish paintjob with gold stripes and gold lettering for the DJR. And if you're familiar with Triumph's Modern Classic Bikes, they're absolutely beautiful and they always every year they're release special edition bikes and they just look phenomenal.

  00;12;11;26 - 00;12;30;27

Yeah, I mean, call me, call me biased because I know I am with especially and comes the triumph's but those Bonneville engines are just everything about the Bonneville is like I don't think there's been a single year in history where they haven't looked phenomenal. Yeah they are beautiful and fantastic looking bikes and I really, I very much want one.

  00;12;30;29 - 00;12;47;27

Yeah. And I already have a Bonneville engine on the Scrambler, but I want a ten and 22, so I have a problem. So. So yeah. So that's it for the news. So let's jump into our main topic, which is the degree. And yeah, since you're a bit more familiar with it than I am, I'll let you explain kind of gone to.

  00;12;47;29 - 00;13;09;29

Yeah. You know, I'll, I'll just go over like some of, like just the baseline information and like what it was like for my first ride and since you haven't been to one and like what it's done for me a little bit without getting too personal or deep, it was, you know, yeah, it was a good time. But the distinguished gentleman's ride, it was actually started in Australia by a man named Mark Kawa.

  00;13;10;01 - 00;13;32;19

That was in 2012. He got the idea from Mad Men. The show was very dapper and fancy. Okay, very cool. Yeah. You know, but he thought that it would be a good theme for some, for like a sport or activity that, like said, you know, from their side they say like it's something that's typically more isolating riding because it is so low.

  00;13;32;19 - 00;13;50;28

Just, you know, like, you know, even if you're with somebody at you're in your helmet, you're in your head. Yeah. You know, but he thought it was a way to bring people together and then looks like, you know, getting dressed up and fancy and treating yourself, you know, would be a good way to bring people together. Yeah. You know, just give yourself some worth and.

  00;13;51;00 - 00;14;16;19

Yeah, Yeah. Connects motorcyclists who have something in common. Oh, I love classic and modern classic motorcycles. You know, I can put on my best suit and, you know, like, twirl my mustache with wax. Yeah, get out there, you know, But they so far, they have raised over, I think it was. Yeah, 37 and a half million dollars with over a 340,000 riders for classic and vintage.

  00;14;16;21 - 00;14;47;00

I don't know, because in my experience, other people besides classic and vintage have shown up for rides. So I don't know if that's including all total, but I mean, there's more. And that's 121 countries around the entire world participate in this activity all in one day barring local weather. Yeah. Happened these last two years for you. So yeah, we had a lot of unpredictable weather in the Yeah really but you know and just to give you like an idea how much it's grown.

  00;14;47;00 - 00;15;11;02

So like I said, it was started in 2012, they started with a couple thousand riders, 3000 riders and I was across 64 cities by cities, I'm guessing. I don't know. I don't know if Australia has 64 cities or if that's worldwide, I don't know. But I'm pretty sure I'm pretty sure they have 64 cities. How big they are was a Yeah, so I don't know if that was restricted to their continent.

  00;15;11;04 - 00;15;37;20

You know, I could see it being worldwide. Okay, sounding like, okay, cities and stuff like that. But so we started with 3000 riders, right. Was to say that 3000 riders then into 2022, since we haven't had the 2023 that has brought forward now 94,000 riders. So wow, ten years, 2012, 2022, you're having a jump from 3000 riders to 94,000 riders, which is just, you know, that's it's crazy.

  00;15;37;20 - 00;15;58;22

It's kind of a lot that's a lot of riders And it's yeah, you know, it's nuts. And then they've also sent in 2022 this is just 2022 They raised six Yeah. $6 million, a little over $6 million. And there was 804 cities worldwide with 101 countries. So I think that might have been because of the 2012 one. It doesn't list countries.

  00;15;58;25 - 00;16;22;17

Yeah. So it actually just distinguishes it. There's 101 countries where they got that from. So it was just very cool. Yeah. And just from my notes here also, 2022 was also the first year of returning to full scale riding events from the pandemic and all that stuff. So it was, yeah, it was really cool. I miss all you did, but you also took a big hit on this.

  00;16;22;20 - 00;16;57;00

We we are planning on doing the ride and the reason we decided to do this episode for the same is because the ride is currently weather pending is scheduled at least here in Salt Lake for May 21st. Yep. And it is a ride. Like I mentioned at the beginning of the episode, it is to raise awareness for men's health, men's mental health, and to raise money to donate to cancer research, mental health research, like all those all sorts of different causes that deal with men's health or just health in general.

  00;16;57;04 - 00;17;17;23

Yeah, I know. And like I hate to say it, you know, and not obviously this is not all charities, but throughout as we've seen events and stuff, you do have to be kind of it's smart to research your charities and giving your money to, you know, for these causes that you believe in, you know, and then seeing this gentleman's right is is 100% qualified, verified.

  00;17;17;26 - 00;17;43;07

You know what what exactly they do to raise awareness and help for like prostate cancer. They have they raise money for clinicals as well as biomedical research. So it's it's it's actually reaching out to like make a difference. And that's one of like the biggest health risks adult man face, especially older adult man. I think it's really cool that there's an organization that's helping raise money and bring awareness to it.

  00;17;43;09 - 00;18;04;06

And yeah, I just I love that. Yeah. And a lot of that works through Movember from there too. So on the men's mental health side of things, they fund world wide programs to bring writers together to promote connection among riders. Some of that, yeah. You know and it's you know and here's the cool thing with the distinguished gentleman track you can check out their Instagram of their page.

  00;18;04;08 - 00;18;23;09

It's not just a man activity, an activity. They actually use the term gentle folk. Anybody can participate in this. And if you have somebody you care about and you know and I've seen plenty of this, I haven't participated. Yeah, but on Instagram and stuff, every year happens and I was very jealous. I was able to make it last year.

  00;18;23;12 - 00;18;49;25

There's plenty of women writers and plenty of other writers and stuff, families, families that join and all ride together, put on some dapper clothes, hop on their bike, whether it's classic or not. Yeah, and just just ride with a bunch of fellow riders. And I absolutely love seeing this kind of sense of community. And it's yeah, it's something that motorcycle is giving me in general because since I got my bike, I met so many cool people.

  00;18;49;27 - 00;19;08;25

We started hanging out. I know, Yeah, we got our bikes and we have our little rider group here in Utah that we hang out with and stuff and keep up with. So it's really cool to have this kind of like, like whether it's a big giant group that you ride with or just a small, tight knit group, it still gives you a sense of like community.

  00;19;08;25 - 00;19;31;21

It gives you, you know, gives you like some some people in friends that have like something in common. And I feel like everyone, whether even if you're the most introverted person, you know, Oh, yeah, it's so nice to have people to, to talk to once in a while and hang out and just kind of like, be around, like even if like, yeah, if you're not in the most like social person or whatnot, you know, like just to be in your community, like, exactly.

  00;19;31;22 - 00;19;52;08

You're, you know, just kind of like, yeah, you're not alone And it's, it's really cool for me, I guess, for both of us. Like we started riding during the pandemic. Yeah. You know, I'm sure everybody knows that was a very isolating for a lot of very isolating. Okay. So that's a cycling. It's actually a decent activity for that because then you have to socially.

  00;19;52;10 - 00;20;11;26

Yeah. No, that's from everyone. Yeah, it was crazy. Like, what kind of timing that turned out because even before I got a bike, you know, I was pretty isolated, just like my job schedule and everything from there. And then on top of that, then the pandemic hit and then I got a bike and it was actually my it's, it's related to the DDR, my very first ride out of my neighborhood.

  00;20;11;26 - 00;20;27;27

Like once I was comfortable enough to actually, like, leave my my back roads and stuff and yeah, you know, get her out on the town. I stopped at a coffee shop and I met a small group of riders and we talked and exchanged numbers and we went, they actually helped me go on my first canyon ride. So I was nervous for that, really.

  00;20;27;27 - 00;20;48;22

So I actually had like a group of people like, okay, like, you know, obviously ride your own ride. And they but they were they were great. They awesome. It was so happy. Yeah. You really do find a sense of community. The first ride it went on, I met like one or two guys from our group and the next year I saw him again and then like, realized like, you guys want to do this more than once a year?

  00;20;49;00 - 00;21;08;24

It's like, Yeah, we all get together every week to ride, and now we do. Yeah. And then we did during the summer, pretty much every week we go out and ride and grab some food and I love it. Forward to it. It's such a great time and I'm very much looking forward to the DJR this year. Yeah, to meet more people because I, I'm fairly extroverted and I love meeting new people.

  00;21;08;26 - 00;21;40;28

Yeah. And it just looks like it would be such a fun time to see a bunch of different bikes and hang out with people that share your hobbies and your interests then yeah, I'm very excited for it and because it supports a good cause and brings us like, yeah, sense of community. I think it's I think it'll be a really awesome about and is a good cause like it raises like some um it's more like we say awareness like it's just I guess a way I'd put it is that it just feels like it's, it feels like you're giving back into the community too, by participating in this race.

  00;21;40;28 - 00;21;58;29

Like, hey, like we're all aware of these issues that we all face. We don't know exactly what they are, but like, we're not alone. Yeah, you know, and on DJR website too, they even have like, stats for, like, like, for some, like suicide prevention stuff. If that's, you know, something that's that's facing you in your life, you know, where somebody or somebody, you know.

  00;21;58;29 - 00;22;15;06

Yeah. Um, you know, and if you've lost people to that, to like, it's just something that you can kind of be like, hey, like we can be better, we can, we can help stop this other stuff, but it's, it, it's phenomenal. Are you guys any who, anybody should just go sign up. It's free. There's no sign up fees.

  00;22;15;13 - 00;22;34;08

All you're doing is raising money for the cause, and you're going on a fun ride. So when you when you first when you first went let's we'll stick with last year because that was kind of like the fourth full size official. What did they do on in 2020 and 2021? It was pretty big. It was a pretty big yeah, it was pretty big.

  00;22;34;09 - 00;22;53;01

And no one was like an official like sanctioned event and stuff versus like in 2020 where it's just kind of like it was like more or less sanctioned. Yeah, but it was we had like maybe 12 people for that. But you know, so for, for your first time, what kind of did you expect going in and what did you feel coming like after it was done?

  00;22;53;05 - 00;23;18;05

So that's the funny thing. And that's why I think it's a good thing that we're doing this. But my mike, again, I think I'm going to just run. I think it's good that we're doing this episode for this because when I started it, I had no idea. I had no idea what the distinguished Roman trade was. I was new to motorcycles and pretty much every person I've met and even a lot of motorcyclists I've met, they still don't know what it is.

  00;23;18;12 - 00;23;37;22

Yeah, I think it's getting bigger. I think it's been growing over time, especially in these last few years. I think more people do know about it. But yeah, I had no idea. I didn't know what to expect. I asked that those those people I met on that first ride outside my neighborhood, they invited me. Okay. Okay. Very cool.

  00;23;37;22 - 00;23;54;08

Yeah. And I got on and just went. I didn't really know what to get for. I said, Oh, dress nice. Like, well, I still want to be at get slide. So I wore all my gear was put on a button up shirt with my riding jeans before they were all scuffed from dirt and stuff, you know? Yeah, I didn't know what to expect.

  00;23;54;08 - 00;24;14;04

It was only a few people. We rode around the Capitol and got some food after that. A photographer there take pictures of those? Yeah, it was. It was. It was really cool. I was very much in love with the event from there and say, Oh, now I'll do this again. Yeah, sure enough, 2021 comes and it's even bigger.

  00;24;14;07 - 00;24;38;23

And it was a Yeah that's, I think that yeah, that was the year that we kind of got everybody in our group together at first. Okay, So it was great. But yeah, like you said you really do is end up meeting some good people and Yeah. And it wasn't like it was just like a spur of the moment, like as a ride wrapped up, somebody was just they said like, do you guys want to ride read more like, Yeah, yes we all do.

  00;24;38;24 - 00;24;52;07

Like, let's go, you know. Oh that's, I made some great friends from it and like, we talked about motorcycles and you know, some of the like we're, we're pretty honest with each other. There's some stuff going on because we know we're riding for. Yeah. And how we got started as a as a group and friends. It makes sense.

  00;24;52;07 - 00;25;15;03

Yeah, that's that's really awesome. And that's that's kind of like I was hoping to hear really is that kind of gives you that sense of community, a sense of belonging. Yeah. And sense of connection. Like, like minded people. Yeah. Individuals. Yeah. Oh, I did want to mention I do. I mentioned to like with it because you know, like when the, the notes mention that, you know, it's a way to bring like an isolating event or activity to bring people together.

  00;25;15;05 - 00;25;38;00

It was that way, you know, like I think motorcycling was like the perfect activity for 2020. It really was other I mean, even though they did say, like, stay home in order to keep the hospitals. Yeah. You know, Yeah. From having extra injured people and stuff like that. But I personally am not the kind of person that sits at home for too long.

  00;25;38;01 - 00;25;57;18

I can't I go nuts and like I guess start to get really antsy. But what happens if I stay at home in the winter? We start a podcast. We start. That's true. That's true. I got to snowboard. It's nice to have a some kind of outlet. Yeah, but. But yeah. And during 2020, yeah, I got my first motorcycle and that helped me a lot too, you know?

  00;25;57;20 - 00;26;15;08

Yeah. Let me go out and do something. And while being away from other people because I don't want to get sick. Yeah. And I don't want to get my parents sick or anything like that. And motorcycle was kind of kind of great for that. And then, uh, yeah, we started hanging out and then more. Then you introduce me to the guys, you know?

  00;26;15;11 - 00;26;34;20

Yeah. Now we have this nice little group Now. It was awesome. Yeah. Like, I just saw something that, you know, typically would be, like, very isolating, and it was the perfect activity. And if you think about it, like, your helmet may not be an N95, but yeah, keep that visor down and right windshield down that windscreen, whatever I got.

  00;26;34;20 - 00;26;56;04

Yeah. You know, keep your helmet closed. That's that's keeping air droplets and all that stuff. You know, always you're most likely just by yourself. Yeah. Now that's because that was my reason for getting a motorcycle is basically like, you know, I like road trips, I like driving around and stuff like that. But I wanted to do it a more fun and interesting way in the motorcycle did for that.

  00;26;56;04 - 00;27;13;20

Plus that sense of adventure or our sense of like openness that a motorcycle gives you. Yeah, which is great. It's funny too, because it was like I knew I wanted to get into motorcycling and try it out, you know, and like, and I thought, like, Oh, yeah, I'll have a bike. It's going to be just a fun little thing to do when I need to.

  00;27;13;20 - 00;27;30;18

And yeah, I had no idea it was going to be like, Oh, this is like my, my identity now. And I was like, This isn't just a hobby. This like, this is like my cause, you know, my purpose. So with the degree, I had a question in my head, but now I kind of forgot it, so I will try to remember it.

  00;27;30;21 - 00;27;51;19

But what was kind of you have to edit this part out? Oh, yeah, it's kind of funny. Yeah. Well, the meantime I just say, like, I do wish we did have like a better recording set up because I think this would have been a cool thing to bring on. Like the guys from the group too. Like, yeah, I think they would do almost like a panel podcast and talk about it because I know one, they would be cool to get there.

  00;27;51;19 - 00;28;08;10

Yeah, cause I know everyone who does, who goes there like they have a reason to go. Yeah, you know, So like, you know, the issues are near and dear to my heart is what they're supporting. But it's, yeah, like it's, I think it'd be cool that they get a little bit perspect more perspective from people we know very.

  00;28;08;12 - 00;28;32;04

And that's actually a good point because if you've participated in the The Stranger Gentleman's Ride, if you're a writer and you participated, shoot us an email. Let us know your experience. Or if you're watching this on YouTube, feel free to leave a comment below because yeah, we would love to. We love hearing your experiences. We love hearing from our listeners and sharing and your comments or whatever you have would even just get other people to say like, Hey, everyone does like this.

  00;28;32;06 - 00;28;53;07

Yeah, it's a big event. Like it's it's funny how large of a global event it is and how little like, Oh, I knew nothing about it. Yeah, people who don't. Right. I have to explain it to them. That makes sense. So, so let me ask you this. If someone wants to participate in the distinguished shamans. Right. What would be the first step and what how should they go about signing out for that?

  00;28;53;10 - 00;29;16;10

Well, first, you better have your endorsement in a motorcycle. You know, it's a good first step. Just Yeah, you should definitely have an endorsement. Yeah. So, you know, to ride motorcycles, you have to have a motorcycle. But no, you just if you actually can sign up for free. Distinguished gentleman's ride actually just pop over to my dashboard because you, you, you upload a picture of yourself, you register what kind of bike you have or you just select a kind of bike you have.

  00;29;16;10 - 00;29;42;17

Yeah. You're given your own link so people can donate to you to sponsor you. And all those funds go to Distinguished Gentleman's Ride and like, you know, they're going to upkeep their organization as and then they're also going to be funding the causes that they stand for. Very cool. I actually and they are it's not a competition, but they do like recognize like the big contributors, you know, and yeah, because you got recognized as a top contributor.

  00;29;42;17 - 00;30;01;14

Yeah I was I was the second largest contributor last year for Salt Lake City, Utah. And because of that, that's why I was telling people, okay, if I can get if I hit my goal, all of I was going to cut down to a mustache anyway, which I did because dapper but because I hit my goal, I went and got this tattoo, which is like one of their symbols.

  00;30;01;14 - 00;30;21;12

It's the umbrella in the wrench cross. That's where like, I hit my goal. So I'm going to get it to symbolize like the the effort of it. So that's I got these air ink on me guys. That's what it's like. That's what it means to me. He's in the group now. Yeah, it's very cool. So signing up on the website and, you know, like, like you said, it's not you don't have to pay anything.

  00;30;21;12 - 00;30;39;06

You don't have to buy anything you can if you want to. Yeah, Like you said, all proceeds go to the DJR Foundation. I mean, I just got this hat today, but I have a DJR hat downstairs. And about that, that would have been a good thing to wear for it. Yeah, I did orders the sticker pack or something from the audience.

  00;30;39;08 - 00;31;00;12

Yeah, but when I, when I created my Lincoln and I was like, yeah, I might as well order and I'll put in some more money to donate and stuff like that. Yeah. And it's not just like once you're set up and say like, okay, send your donation link wherever they actually have like badges and like achievements for you to as you girls like one, you have like your profile picture, you make a personal donation, then you make a random donation.

  00;31;00;12 - 00;31;19;10

They have a button, just click. You're going to randomly donate to somebody. That's very cool, you know, And then like, you can have like your bars are set, you can set your personal goal that you want to hit for your funds. But then they have like a benchmark say you'll get a badge for if you do raise $250 and then sharing your profile, uploading your pictures and hitting a thousand.

  00;31;19;11 - 00;31;40;25

Yeah. And then on top of that, that motorcycle, you mentioned that each year or two and 20 on a bill, that's actually a prize this year. Oh really. Yeah. Yeah, that's that. Let's see, let's get there. Cause they actually have like tiered prizes for that one. Like last year was, I don't know, I actually don't know exactly which let's say leaderboards right now even.

  00;31;40;25 - 00;32;05;00

I mean someone's already raised $7,000 events and what, a month and three weeks. It's a little under two months now. But no, they're yeah, it's, it's really cool. So do you think of that question. Yeah. Yeah. My, my question was the one like how do people that want to get into it like sign up and start? Oh yeah, that's so, yeah, I did ask the question.

  00;32;05;00 - 00;32;26;21

I actually may have to correct myself. I don't, I actually don't know if that Bonneville is a prize because I, I'm pretty sure last year was like a grand prize, but they have like helmets and stuff. You can get to like custom made helmet, decorated helmets for DDR style and all that stuff. Okay, so very cool. We might be a little off on some of those facts, but like but you get the gist of it.

  00;32;26;21 - 00;32;43;25

But they do like reward their people and then try and participate in this too. I know I mentioned that part. Yeah, I don't think we have. But I did mention that they are sponsor. Yeah. And they're like, Yeah, yeah. They. So Triumph takes a big part in this dapper stuff. You don't have to have a triumph to ride a DDR though.

  00;32;43;27 - 00;33;04;25

You don't have to have a classic motorcycle. I mean yeah, they say that's what they like geared toward or like what they, what the theme is, you know. But I think like, you know, I don't see any personally, I don't see a reason why someone shouldn't attend because they don't have a modern classic motorcycle. If you're dressed in the part, you're showing up for the cause.

  00;33;04;28 - 00;33;23;29

That that's my personal decision. I'll just in the part probably, you know. Yeah. Like, I mean, still like a little bit, you know, it might stand out a bit more, but yeah, just to just engage with the activity and the people, you know, I'd say like because yeah, I think as long as you you're dressing up, you don't have to dressed to the nines, you know, you just, you know, button up shirt, just put on your best stuff.

  00;33;24;05 - 00;33;43;00

Yeah. And head out. So they're huge on safety too. There's always a safety brief. You know, they talk about like, reasons why this causes important. So can you talk a little bit about the safety brief and kind of what they go over that? Well, there's a lot of the you know, one we're part of is like guys like were you know, there is a risk to riding in a group.

  00;33;43;01 - 00;34;02;23

Yeah, that that's just a fact you know so they'll go over like riding safe. We typically don't go on fast roads it's a pretty small road and especially because a lot of people aren't wearing like they're full at because you're showing off your gear. You know, there's a predetermined route set by the red captain. There's a ride captain who organizes it from there.

  00;34;02;23 - 00;34;22;29

And these like helmets. You have to have a helmet, you know, and like, ride safe. That's like their big thing is just ride safe, ride, safe, ride safe. So it's yeah, it's a it's a big safety brief like that. The right captain for for us. Like he said something along the lines of like it's like, you know, ride your own ride, do what you want, but you're not wearing a helmet.

  00;34;22;29 - 00;34;43;16

You're stupid. Yeah And I stand by that. So, no, I would never ride without a helmet. It's just. And I want to tourists way too, if it doesn't match the rest of the outfit. Yeah, it's still it. Or I would still wear it. Yeah. Or if you have a classic looking helmet. There you go. Make sure. Yeah. I really want to get, like, a three quarter helmet just for the look.

  00;34;43;16 - 00;35;05;11

It's not the safest thing, but I really want one. I would get one just for the ride. Yeah, that's right. That's right. And then that's that. Yeah, right. But I do, I do like the look of that too. And I just and seen the pictures on Instagram and YouTube of people doing the ride. I just absolutely love, uh, although well-dressed people like, cruising along the street and.

  00;35;05;11 - 00;35;28;16

Yeah, it just looks so cool. Like, I love that style. I love how it looks. Yeah. And it just makes me excited about riding a motorcycle. Yeah. That's so cool. Oh, and I found it here, too. They do. So they, you know, they do have a style guide on their website. If you're wondering, like, what kind of. I don't want to call it a dress code, but, you know, like what The theme, what the what they're going for is it's dapper, vintage, classic.

  00;35;28;16 - 00;35;47;26

You know, they have a list of like type of bikes. I've I've never seen anyone kicked out for having something because again, I think it's the same thing. You're showing up for something and you know but yeah just Google even Google dapper two and like how to dress and things like that. You know, again, it's everybody. You don't have to be a man for male, even gentlemen.

  00;35;47;26 - 00;36;09;28

You can be a gentle person, a person that anyone you wanted for that motorcycle and you know how to ride. Yeah, yeah. So very dapper. I think I did screw up. I don't know if they are doing prizes, like giving away a bike this year. They did last year though. I'm like, confident that they did last year. All right or Yeah so so but they do recognize like top donors.

  00;36;09;28 - 00;36;29;17

Oh yeah like that because like you just showed us there's a whole leaderboard of and that's global stuff you know I think I don't even remember what somebody like. It was astonishing like the level of funds, like the top performer very like ever did. And I find that and I, I want to just reiterate for those that are listening is that you don't have to donate.

  00;36;29;17 - 00;36;51;26

You don't have to I mean, we encourage you to donate whatever you can is charity. It's it's charity. Yeah. But it's not like you have to, like, meet a certain milestone or, you know, I really like putting that much effort into a so it's not like don't hurt yourself financially just to participate in this, just to do this.

  00;36;51;28 - 00;37;15;01

But if, if you can donate, if you can do something that yeah I mean like I would person encourage you to but also yeah I don't you know and like I can't speak for every I've only participated in the Salt Lake ride but it's you know and I would just throw it out there like with like any group you go on just like, you know, if you show up somewhere.

  00;37;15;01 - 00;37;36;16

But yeah, there should be a safety briefing. Like, I'm pretty sure there are rules that the captains have to follow and put out. Oh, you know, because it is it does seem to be controlled and obviously be it's kind of an oxymoron if you're going out on a ride for men's health and mental health and then like someone somebody gets hurt, someone gets hurt or worse, you know, slowly we want Yeah, we wouldn't want that.

  00;37;36;16 - 00;37;58;13

We don't want any riders getting hurt. Yeah. I feel like since it is a group activity, it might help if you have a bit of maybe a little bit of group riding experience and. Yeah. Or like at the very least, like I was still pretty new, you know, my bike in May and like the I think it was like September October when the, when the ride I went on was like the unofficial but like where I Yeah it was, it was, it was a lot of fun though.

  00;37;58;13 - 00;38;21;27

It was a great time. Yeah. Yeah, I was. And if you haven't written on a group, maybe you can look up just some basic group riding tips and techniques on, on YouTube or online. Just, just make sure you're not in anybody's way. And yeah, so you know where you should position yourself in. The lake crew is awesome. Like, I've never had any problems with that in the times I've ridden.

  00;38;21;27 - 00;38;47;15

Everyone just knows and they and they go over that. In the safety briefing I'll ride staggered Yeah. Like, just keep your distance. Don't, don't crowd up. Yeah you know it's so they address all the safety concerns there and I actually think like for the first ride I am remembering right what it was is actually that I so I found out about the degree through that ride during 2020 was like you know this isn't like an actual event like this is just like that.

  00;38;47;15 - 00;39;04;04

This is the ride that we participate in every year. And we just wanted to get together as a group. Yeah. And then that's how I found out about it. And then 20, 21, 2022, there was the actual like the actual. Yeah. Very cool. Yeah, it was, Yeah. I remember seeing your photos from last year and this is so good.

  00;39;04;08 - 00;39;24;08

It looks so good. So I'm very much looking forward to it. Is there any other information you want to share for people? We do have our own dashboards set up and things like that. Yeah, On Personal Dashboard, if you want to donate to either of us either are either of us or split the course or whoever. Yeah, we're not competing at out about it.

  00;39;24;11 - 00;39;41;27

It's it's all the same cause and stuff like that. So if you want to feel free to do so, we are by no means like hounding for money or anything like that. Not at all. But yeah, if you want to, you're more than welcome to donate. We'll put the links in the description below, below the episode, or if you watch on YouTube for the description below as well.

  00;39;41;27 - 00;39;59;00

Yeah. It's got nothing to do with us. This isn't anything that we're not even going to see. The money is going to. If you donate, it'll just sponsor our pages of air and then I'm just here for the vibes. I'm here. Yeah. So I fun to go. I just want to go hang out with other motorcyclists and. I don't know, man, I just.

  00;39;59;00 - 00;40;20;26

Right here, I want to hang out with other motorcyclists and talk to them about the bikes while looking like a sorry, some of my giant ass tiger. Nine hugs compared to slaughter a little bit. All the modern classics. I'm just I guess you're bikes Pretty forks, you know, I do I do stand up pretty tough. But I, I do have my got the wire tank and it's like pretty faired and stuff.

  00;40;20;26 - 00;40;36;00

So I just say, like anything, a cigar even made a joke in our little riding group just to see if anyone. Oh yeah. Has a modern classic I could borrow. Yeah, borrow for the ride. So. So I can fit in a stick just because I like to look the part. Maybe I'll see if I can rent the bike or something.

  00;40;36;00 - 00;40;55;09

Or someone to come. Oh, your sports. You know what? I just remembered? Your sports of your time. If you want to let me borrow bike, be very much appreciate about it. Well, Morgan, if you're listening, please. I'm just kidding. I will. I will write whatever bike I can. Yeah, but I am. I am. I am showing up this year.

  00;40;55;11 - 00;41;19;12

What were you going to say? I just remembered I was going to dress up, like, for this episode to, like, for the vibe. But I. I just. Yeah, that's okay. It's, it's. It's a weekday for me at least. Yeah. And, you know, we both have other other jobs, other things to do. So, yeah, sometimes, sometimes we just decide to record and we just go for it, right?

  00;41;19;16 - 00;41;37;10

Yeah. This is interesting, cause, like, you know, I've always found or we thought, right, Like, you know, motorcycles are a much bigger part of everyday life outside the US. Yeah. You know, like it is more of like a hobby recreational thing considered for, for the United States here. The top country from the D.R. so far is the United States.

  00;41;37;16 - 00;41;54;27

Very cool. So I feel like I also have said we are a pretty large country. Yeah. And we have people that take a look at the list of others. Yeah, we got some of that. Yeah, go ahead. And so second place is England. So over the top. England. Yeah, Netherlands, Australia and Canada. Yeah. And we got Germany in there.

  00;41;54;27 - 00;42;21;01

Italy, a lot of European countries. Yeah. That's pretty cool. So it's New Zealand, there's a next 20 again, there's 120 something countries on here. But I mean if you even look at the jumps though from the US race so far, $308,000, that is crazy compared to England and jumping down to Netherlands from like 150 K 250000 to 91000, that is very substantially accepted to see.

  00;42;21;03 - 00;42;46;19

Yeah. So good job U.S. for now. Way to go. We have money to spare, apparently. Yeah. Yeah. Really? So that's very cool. I'm very much looking forward to it. I don't know if there's anything else I have to add, considering I never participated. Yeah, I think it's. I think we've we've gone, but I can't talk now. I, I think that we, we get the most engagement from listeners, from you guys.

  00;42;46;19 - 00;43;10;05

Like when we do talk about like our experiences, what's our advice. You know, and this is just something, this is to bring awareness of a good cause and, and a cool event, a very clear if you're a writer, you should definitely see if there's one near you. Well, and like with my story. Yeah, like, well, like with my story is like I, you know, like I was new to riding, you know, you were the only person I rode with, you know?

  00;43;10;05 - 00;43;33;12

So it was like, you know, we live pretty well, not far, far away, but, you know, so 40, 40 minutes for China, you know. But if you want to meet some new writers and in your area too, it's just. Yeah. And honestly, like whether you write, like riding alone is fun. I enjoy it once. So it's it's tough on that because I can just go on my own pace and I always have my camera with me.

  00;43;33;12 - 00;43;52;14

I take lots of pictures and whenever I write with other people I feel like I'm slowing them down because I will start to, you know, take picture of my bike or some pretty landscape and things like that. Yeah, but on the other hand, I do enjoy riding with small group of people or even so group of people, because it's just fun.

  00;43;52;17 - 00;44;11;27

It's just fun, like cruising down the canyons with the other folks and stuff. That's great. Yeah. You park somewhere, you have a chat, you check out each other's bikes, take some photos, write back, grab some food, talk some more about motorcycles and yeah, bunch of other stuff. I love it. It's such a fun feeling, fun sense of community.

  00;44;11;27 - 00;44;32;06

And it's cool knowing that there's like, you know, other people I can talk to talk about motorcycles. Well, right. Yeah. Well, you know, it's just like, you know, I think you just become a better writer if other people around, too sometimes, you know, like with the right people, obviously there's, you know, we don't encourage any reckless riding that is podcast, not encourage being a dick.

  00;44;32;12 - 00;44;54;24

Nope. Like a motorcycle. They don't encourage doing wheelies down the busy street. Yeah. You know, if you're going to if you're on a stunt and have fun, go have fun. But I just be. I don't put people at risk. Yeah, I don't put other people at risk cause I feel like motorcycles already have kind of a a stigma to them, especially among like, drivers and stuff like that, for being reckless teenagers.

  00;44;54;24 - 00;45;17;21

Reckless like there's there's always somebody out there, you know? I mean, there's plenty of bad drivers out there, too. There's a lot of that, right? Yeah, but not even arguably there's more bad drivers and bad writers. But I feel like I least me person, I would encourage people to not add to that. Yeah. Yeah. If they I mean well you know, ride your ride, have fun but also yeah yeah.

  00;45;17;24 - 00;45;41;09

Be mindful of others around you. Well you know and I don't think it gets talked about really is like the mental health aspect after an accident to you know Oh like and that can tie back to a degree if it does raise awareness and like for me it's like if you're having mental health struggles and stuff like that, like engaging in something like this charity that's that gives back to, you know, to a to a group or a population that has similar struggles.

  00;45;41;13 - 00;46;03;00

Yeah, it kind of just it does give that purpose. Yeah. So that makes sense. Yeah. Cool. That's I mean, and I think that's really. Yeah, I don't really have much else to add to it other than I'll just repeat myself. Just go for it. I'd say try it, look into it, you know, And it's really cool if you're somebody who's like, Oh, I'm not big with crowds or I don't like riding at that, that's fine.

  00;46;03;01 - 00;46;18;25

Yeah, you can even just sponsor other riders to sponsor other riders, or maybe you can just meet up with them at the end, have a chat. And so if you don't have to participate in the full group, ride, we usually get food after with our little groups. Let's see some of the best part of riding. Yeah, I look forward to that during every ride.

  00;46;18;26 - 00;46;37;06

Right. What's the ride without getting food after actually. But yeah, but like I said, or like we mentioned so you can you're welcome to donate to either one of us or both of us if you want. If you want to sign up, we'll put the link in the description down below as well. So if you have, if you ride.

  00;46;37;06 - 00;46;54;23

Yeah. And it doesn't have to be us. Oh, just have to be us. You can if there's a random donation link, if you know somebody who's participating and you don't ride ride yet, whichever donate to them, you can even hit the random donation button, you know, just like it. It's cool. We raise funds like I was very proud to be like the second largest last year.

  00;46;54;23 - 00;47;17;28

But, you know, at the same time, it's like, this is for the cause. This isn't for like, my fundraising is I don't care who. You donate to. So I just go donate it. We're we're just providing the opportunity for you to donate. And if you want to participate, we'll throw in the link down there as well. Yeah. For free for your sign up so you can participate and the other fellow writers and help help bring awareness to the so called cause.

  00;47;18;05 - 00;47;40;18

Good cause. Um, so yeah, that's pretty much it. That's all I had. Oh, also. And if you have participated in did you ever ride before? Feel free. Just a reminder. Feel free to send us an email. If you're watching us on YouTube, leave a comment. We'd love to hear about your experience or or if you have questions that we didn't touch on or if you have questions or if you're willing to share your some of your riding stories.

  00;47;40;20 - 00;48;00;11

We always love hearing those. And as always, you can even message us about our older episodes. You've got questions relating to those. Yep. If you have any critiques for us, we welcome those as well because we're still learning nearly this. So yeah, I think before most before we do an outro, I'd just like to say totally on the topic of purposes in riding, like we had at the beginning of this podcast is awesome.

  00;48;00;11 - 00;48;16;00

I'm having a blast. Oh yeah. It just feels, it feels meaningful to like talk about like especially every time we get like a new email of someone like, Oh no, we always tend like, Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God. You know, this is the most exciting thing. I look forward to it and it makes me happy to interact with, with all of you.

  00;48;16;02 - 00;48;46;09

Likewise. So anyways, thank you again so much for listening and for tuning in yet again and hopefully, hopefully you like this episode. Hopefully I gave you some information about the degree and you know, check it out. If if there's one area, check it out. Give it give it a try. Yeah. And yeah, I think we'll be we'll be back with other episodes more topical and like experience and we of got to go we kind of just figure this out as we go.

  00;48;46;10 - 00;48;52;00

Yeah. So but yeah stay safe out there. Stay safe. Right Safe. And we'll see you next time. Yeah.
